| The Nelson Mail has served the Nelson region with a daily newspaper continuously since 1866 and is one of New Zealand's oldest and most respected provincial newspapers. While much emphasis is placed on local newsgathering, the newspaper employs a team of 34 journalists to ensure a mix of national, international news, business and sports coverage, features and utilities. As well, from Monday to Saturday, The Nelson Mail offers a range of special features: Monday: A strong sports section 'SCORE' which is dominated by the best stories and photographs from the weekend's action, and includes columnists, results panel, competitions, a 'winners and wannabes' panel, and local, international and international highlights. Tuesday: Fresh - food, fashion and lifestyle. 'RD - delivering the rural news' has a news-focused style, but with strong emphasis on human features. It explores important and interesting issues affecting people living in rural areas, as well as reporting on developments in Nelson's diverse farming and horticultural scene. Wednesday: Our 'Arts' section gives an update on Nelson's rich arts and crafts community, with all the full flavours of the people and the events happening in our region. Included in this section is a mini-magazine, with current topical articles.. Thursday: 'Entertainment' our colourful weekly entertainment section is a wrap up of all the good things in life, including features and articles on movies, videos, music, concerts, dining out, live entertainment, and travel offer suggestions for holiday destinations. Our motoring supplement, Wheels, showcases the latest cars and motoring news. Friday: 'Home & Garden' section is compiled by our People and Plants writer, Phillipa Lamb, who looks at homes and gardens in the region, gives her list of jobs for the week plus tips, advice and handy hints. Our property supplement offers a section of feature articles on local properties and the best guide to what's for sale in the region. Saturday: Our Weekend magazine section offers extra reading with feature articles, a glimpse of Nelson's past, and book reviews. Saturday's Nelson Mail also has the biggest classified advertising marketplace of the week. |
