Technical Requirements:

As a continuation of our emphasis on customer support, and to ensure customer requests are met, the .EPS file format for electronic disk transfer is policy for Manawatu Evening Standard.

It is preferable if files from PCs and MACs are supplied to us in .EPS format for most efficient use through our computer system. All images included in the file must also be present (tiffs, eps etc) on the disk. When supplying logos or elements as partial copy for advertisements on disk, it is necessary that this material is received by us in .TIF format. All colour files must be supplied in CMYK format.

Digital file preparation

* Create the dimensions of the ad document as the actual size the ad is going to be in the paper, with no margins.

* Printing options for page setup should be set for 100% output.

* Keep text and graphic boxes completely within the ad boundary to prevent possible postscript errors during processing.

* Avoid placing filled graphics to erase or hide non-printing items, instead delete the unused elements and all other extraneous items from the pasteboard area outside the ad perimeter.

When creating ads please be aware of our advertising deadlines, they differ from paper to paper and from classified to run of paper. A laser copy of the finished advertisement MUST be supplied with the corresponding disk.

Including graphics

* Save all images and graphics appropriately labelled in the same folder or directory with your ad. For graphics use the file extension to indicate the format used eg. dog.tif, dob.jpg, cat.eps. Please save all file names in PC format ie. 8 characters maximum, no capitals or spaces.

* Avoid changing names of photos and graphics after they have been imported into the ad layout because vital file path links will be broken.

Postscript Fonts

With regard to postscripts font usage, we are licensed to print fonts that are resident on our printing devices, a list of these are available on request.

Note: If you are supplying us a disk with files created in Pagemaker, and you wish to use fonts we don't have, make sure you check the box with "include downloadable fonts" when creating a postscript file. If the file is Freehand, please use the "convert text to paths" feature for true type fonts or fonts not on our list, before saving the document as an .EPS file.
