The Waikato Times is one of New Zealand's oldest newspapers. Founded in
1872, it is New Zealand's fourth largest major daily newspaper. The
Waikato Times won best major daily newspaper in the 2009 Qantas Media
Awards
The newspaper covers a region south of Auckland to Taupo, taking in
large areas of New Zealand's premier dairy, forestry and thoroughbred
land developments. Centred on Hamilton City (population 142,000 aged
10+) and major towns Huntly, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Morrinsville,
Matamata, Tokoroa. The newspaper reaches 109,000 average issue readers
every day, from a circulation of 41,045 copies.
The Waikato Times has a modern plant facility at Te Rapa on the
outskirts of Hamilton City with a six unit Uniman 4/2 printing press
and an Atex publishing system.
The newspaper maintains a strong position within the Waikato community
it serves. "As Waikato as it gets" is the claim as it aims to be a
major influence in all that is good for the citizens of Hamilton and
the growth of the Waikato.
In addition to publishing the daily Waikato Times, the company also
publishes community newspaper Hamilton Press which is distributed to
every household in Hamilton city and immediate rural environs.
