The Nelson Mail
was one of the more recent additions to the INL Portfolio. The
Nelson-based company previously traded as the Nelson Evening Mail Limited
and was purchased by INL in late 1993.
The company has
a significant history, its founder Robert Lucas first publishing the
Nelson Evening Mail in 1866. The newspaper company continued to be in
Lucas family ownership right up until the INL sale.
INL's purchase
was a signal for some immediate changes. The most visible change was to
the newspaper itself with adoption of the new masthead, The Nelson Mail,
supported by some far reaching design changes and a new delivery
timetable. Behind the scenes was investment in a new building and the
installation of a computer system to meet the needs of editorial,
advertising, and production. These projects were followed by new printing
equipment.
In addition to publishing the
Nelson Mail, The Nelson Mail publishes two weekly
community newspapers - The Leader, and Motueka Golden Bay News.
Collectively, they are distributed to every household across the greater
Nelson region. |
