Central South Island Farmer

Covering the three community papers rural delivery area allows the paper to reach into almost every home in the rural central South Island. The weekly content includes local farming news and a variety of features that change each week to provide readers and advertisers with many opportunities.

Newspaper Details

The Central South Island Farmer is a specialised stand alone publication delivered through the Herald Communities. Targeting the important central South Island farming region it allows manufacturers, retailers and service providers to reach their specific market.

Advertisers cover the rural delivery across all three communities (Waitaki, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury regions) to reach 14,000 homes. With news and features covering dairy, cropping, sheep, cattle, farm machinery and a variety of other subjects of interest to local farmers.

The Central South Island Farmer also publishes in North Canterbury/Selwyn District, through The Northern Outlook and Central Canterbury News. An Advertising package called "Southern Combine Advertising Pack" also includes the Otago Southland Farmer and you can effectively reach 49,527 Rural mail boxes (see rate card for details).

Newspaper Display Advertising
Display advertising is located throughout the publication and utilises size, colour, illustration and typography to attract the reader's attention. Display advertising is primarily found in the editorial sections but can also be placed within classified sections if deemed appropriate and relevant.

You can request a preferred position within the newspaper for a fee or choose "run of paper" whereby the advertisement is placed in any position in the paper at our discretion. Opting for run of paper generally results in a reduced charge to an advertiser.

Standard sizes

Run of paper advertising has a minimum size of 4cm deep to 7cols (26.2cm) wide, up to a maximum size of 27cmx7cols and then to 37x7cols.

Classified from 2cm deep to 8columns (27cm) wide, up to 27cmx8cols and then to 37cmx8cols

Premium Positions

Advertisers are able to purchase, subject to availability, front page solus, premium and unique positions. Size, availability and price are subject to request and availability. 

Run of Paper

The Central South Island Farmer publish as one main book inserted into the Community Heralds in their RD areas.

The Central South Island Farmer publish a Local Retail Advertising rate card. The new 2012-2013 ratecard is attached. To calculate your advertising/schedule cost take the depth of the advert (cm’s) and multiply it by the width (in columns) then multiply by the applicable rate and then the number of insertions required.

If you have a solus position or special loading (for colour or position guaranteed) add this percentage at the end. The total is the ad cost amount exclusive of GST.

Timaru Herald Rate Card

The booking deadline for all Wednesday community publications, display each week is 11am Thursday prior to publication. Classified non-display deadlines are 5pm the Friday prior.
